We love our dogs and want them by our side. According to the National Pet Owners Survey, approximately 78% of American pet owners travel with their four-legged friends each year. The boom in pet travel has encouraged more and more hotels to be pet friendly.

Read below for a guide on the dog policies of some popular hotel chains. All hotels ask that you notify them when checking in if you have a pet with you. While all listed are dog friendly hotels, some do go the extra mile. There is a noticeable difference between dog friendly and dog loving. When packing, be sure to bring vaccination records, as some hotels require them.

• They do not charge a fee to have a dog with you

• Their website states that if your pet fits through the door, they will be accepted

There are 719 Home 2 Suites by Hilton locations in the United States and 524 Homewood Suites.

Always research parks and outdoor restaurants ahead of time so that you and your pup can visit together. On our journeys, I have always found that breweries and vineyards are typically dog friendly (especially outside and sometimes inside). And some surprising local stores.
