  • These TikTok Dog Businesses Are Living Every Pet Lover’s Dream

These are just a few of the recent businesses I have seen on TikTok. Dog lovers are spending more and more time with their pups. And spending more money than ever. According to Forbes, in 2022, Americans spent $136.8 billion on their pets, up nearly 11% from 2021 ($123.6 billion). They are important family members and deserve to be treated like one! Watercolors & Whiskers in NYC This is a painting workshop with puppies. The programs promises to lower stress with both the painting and the interaction with the pups. Animals are brought in from local breeders and shelters. A portion of the proceeds also go to shelters. There is also one with pigs- how can you say no to that! Mutts & Martinis in St Petersburg, FL This is a dog friendly sports bar. There is a dog water park as well as a shaded play area. You can also take your dog inside the bar. I would love to see more establishments like this! Doggie Sweets in Long Branch, NJ Doggie Sweets hosts dog events such as birthday parties and events such as specific breed meet ups. They have a cafe as well as a food truck. They offer multiple packages to ensure your pup has the best birthday! Tales & Tails book cafe in Fredericksburg, VA This bookstore combines the love of books with their love of dogs. They have a dog friendly patio where you can order coffee and a book to enjoy. The best part is they also highlight dogs in need of a home! The Mobile Barkery in California (LA area) This is a food truck for dogs! Why shouldn't dogs have their own treat truck? Ice cream and cookies are just some of the products. You can find them at dog parks and dog friendly beaches. Soft Paws in Southport, UK It's called soft play for dogs. You can book 30 minutes sessions for you and your dog. Ball pits, tunnels, and just a ton of fun! Everything is soft and padded- no hard landings for your pup. Please open one in the US! 4 Paws Kingdom Campground in Rutherfordton, NC Camping has gone to the dogs! Swimming pond, trails, and multiple off leash areas for your dog to explore. Stop in the bathhouse to pamper your pup. There is hook up for your RV or rent one of the site's RVs or cabins for your stay. Cuppa Pug multiple locations in the UK and US (and hopefully more soon) I love a pug so this one immediately caught my attention! This cafe has pugs available to snuggle with. Mornings are so much better when you can have your coffee with a side of pug. The best part is there are pugs available for adoption. I love this so much because what a great way to potentially make a love connection! RetrievAir with multiple hubs Fly with your dog without the stress. If your dog is 40 lbs. or under they can sit on your lap for the whole duration of the flight. Over 40 lbs. they will require a seat next to you. Water and treats will be served! Hope these businesses give you all some ideas of your own. Remember pet owners spend a ridiculous amount of money on their animals- as they should!

The level of commitment will be up you. This would be perfect for someone retired looking to make extra money or just wanting to be around dogs. What a perfect gig for someone who may be going to school and needs to supplement their income. I recently went back to school online studied with my pup by my side. A vet tech may offer pet-sitting services on the side. Those are some serious credentials to bring to clients. How to get clients There are websites such as www.wag.com  and www.rover.com . These allow you to sign up to start getting pups in your area and your human clients can leave reviews. Announce your services through local Facebook groups or the Nextdoor app. Network at dog parks. Even the most introverted person loves talking about their pup. Ask to leave fliers with veterinarian offices or dog stores. Once you start getting clients ask them about any neighbors with dogs. Having multiple clients in one apartment building or in the same neighborhood will be a bonus. How to set yourself apart While these are not necessary, there are certifications you can obtain to put your clients at ease. The Red Cross has a Cat and Dog first aid online training certification. If you prefer in-person, check your local pet stores.  A dog boarding and daycare facility near me offers in-person CPR certification classes. There are dog behavior certifications, or you can take a course on dog behavior to give yourself an advantage. Let your clients know you care about being prepared. Do you have experience with senior dogs or special needs dogs? It can make a difference. Volunteer your dog walking services at a rescue or animal shelter. You can then use the rescue as a reference. You could also offer pet waste removal to clients with yards. The financial stuff you need to know Insurance can be fairly reasonable. This is something you will want to obtain for your own safety and benefit. As well as keep your client’s mind at ease. According to NextInsurance.com  general liability insurance costs 82% of our customers $11 on average per month. With pet sitting you may want to be both bonded and insured. Being bonded protects against theft while insurance protects against accidents. Do your research and compare prices.   Taxes Speak to a tax professional.  You may want to sit down with a tax preparer prior to start dog walking so you know what to expect and are setting aside the right tax amount either quarterly or yearly. There are also some items you may write off. Discuss with your tax preparer what purchases to keep track off such as poop bags, business-related mileage, shoes, and much more. They can help you be ahead of the game for when you file your taxes.   Go the extra mile Schedule a meet and greet for first-time clients to put the potential clients at ease and make sure it will be a good fit for you and any new dogs. Send videos and pics to the client once you’ve started. Let the client know about the interaction and any cute stories. When my sometimes-fearful dog had her first day at doggy day care I was so happy I was sent a video of her playing with her new friends. It put me at ease and was fun to watch!   Working with dogs can be a great joy to your life. You just have to start one client at a time!

  • 7 Unusual Dog Business Ideas to Get Excited About

These are 7 dog business ideas that you may not have heard of before and maybe there is something in this list to get you excited to start. The last one on the list may be the most genius one I have heard of! Table of Contents 1. Dog Masseuse 2. Reiki 3. Flight Nanny 4. Acupuncture 5. Dog Party Planner 6. Dog Escort for Wedding 7. Puppy Social Wellness Experience   1. Dog Masseuse Step 1 : Research dog massage certifications. You do not need to be licensed or certified to become a dog masseuse. However, to start a reputable business it is strongly recommended to become certified. This is not only to showcase yourself as an expert, but it will also give your clients confidence in choosing you. Step 2 : Complete 200 hours of training and study. There are a few places you may become certified. The National Board of Certification for Animal Acupressure and Massage (NBCAAM) is the main one. Step 3 : Learn and relay the benefits of massage to potential clients. It can be used for a dog recovering from an injury or as a relaxation technique for dogs who may be anxious or improve circulation. And what creature doesn’t love a massage? Step 4 : Start offering your services-get out and network!    2. Reiki Step 1 : Learn about Reiki. Reiki means spiritual energy and it is an ancient Japanese healing practice. It is light touch therapy. Keeping our pets comfortable is so important to us. Reiki eases pain and reduces stress. Step 2 : You may become a Certified Pet Reiki Practitioner. As with a masseuse it is not recommended to be certified but strongly encouraged. You can easily find courses online to learn Reiki for animals. I was surprised to see the Community College of Baltimore County offers an in-person Animal Reiki practitioner certification. It just shows that caring about our pets has become mainstream. There are also many online course options. Step 3 : Offer Reiki sessions for dogs, especially those dealing with chronic pain, anxiety, or end-of-life care.   3. Flight Nanny. Step 1 : Understand the job of a flight nanny. A flight nanny flies with the dog in the cabin. This allows them to stay with the pup to ensure it is safe and comfortable while all its needs are met Step 2 : Network with breeders and pet owners who travel frequently. Breeders commonly use flight nannies to transport a puppy to the new owner. You can also hire a flight nanny if you are moving and want someone to fly with your dog.  Or anyone who cannot be with their dog on a flight and needs to ensure they are being cared for. Step 3 : Keep the dog calm on flights while keeping them happy and healthy. 4. Acupuncture Step 1 : A licensed veterinarian can perform acupuncture on a dog. This is an interesting path to take as a veterinarian. Step 2 :  Besides being a veterinarian, you must be an acupuncturist certified veterinary acupuncturist (CVA). Step 3 : Acupuncture may be used to treat pain or anxiety and is typically used in addition to other treatments. My dog had acupuncture while he was being treated for his brain tumor and did find it helped with pain management and comfort.   5. Dog Party Planner Step 1 : A dog party planner can be used to plan dog birthdays or canine weddings as they become more and more popular. Step 2 : Offer pooch décor, dog-friendly treats, as well as cake. You can also partner with caterers to provide for the needs of humans.   Step 3 : You can also offer DIY party kits for humans to be their own party planners for the day. Offer a dog-friendly photo booth or backdrops for chaotic photos.   6. Dog Escort for Wedding Step 1 :  Learn the potential here! This is also known as a wedding pet attendant. So many couples are including their pets on their wedding day and want a worry-free day when it comes to the needs of their fur baby. Step 2: Specialize in transporting dogs to weddings and ensuring they are well-prepared for their roles in the ceremony. Help primp the pups to get photo ready. Step 3 : The attendant ensures the pup is fed, properly hydrated, and all-around cared for while the bride and groom enjoy their day.   7.   Puppy Social Wellness Experience Step 1 : Organize puppy social events such as yoga or a social hour of play. Step 2 : Partner with breeders or rescues to bring puppies to events. This helps puppies who need a home as well as help with socialization. Step 3 : Market to dog lovers and especially to companies looking to book events. Educate potential clients of the benefits of a puppy wellness event. According to the National Institutes of Health interacting with puppies can lower blood pressure and cortisol levels.   As a former employer of a large corporation, I can tell you this is something I would have looked forward to!   Hopefully, these unusual dog business ideas will provide some inspiration. I know how hard starting a new job or business can be. The anxiety of the unknown is enough to prevent anyone from starting. But what if you try it and love it?  So many of these can be started as a part-time job or just started with one initial client. If you hate it don’t move forward. If you find you love it the options can be endless!
